Peoples’ Self-Help Housing Incorporates Affiliate Property Management Nonprofit The Duncan Group

San Luis Obispo, Calif., July 10, 2018 – In an effort to increase efficiency and further strengthen its ability to offer quality affordable housing to California’s Central Coast, Peoples’ Self-Help Housing (PSHH) has incorporated its nearly 22-year-old nonprofit property management affiliate, The Duncan Group (TDG).
“By bringing TDG and the property management functions into the folds of PSHH, we are going to be able to better serve our residents,” said PSHH President & CEO John Fowler. “Our combined staff and their talents will now be working towards a joint mission and purpose to the benefit of all our partners and to everyone living at our properties.”
TDG was originally formed in 1996 to bring quality property management to the growing number of affordable rentals PSHH was acquiring and building. Since then PSHH has grown from nine rental properties with approximately 350 units to owning 50 properties and managing over 1,800 rental units.
Through the new Property Management Department, residents will continue to receive dedicated care from on-site managers and maintenance staff combined with our signature site-based services. As many of the business functions and processes were already working in parallel, and all the staff from TDG retained, it is projected that the incorporation will have minimal impact on residents or daily operations.
Founded in 1970, PSHH is the largest nonprofit housing developer on the Central Coast and has the mission of building affordable homes and providing site-based services that offer opportunities to change lives and strengthen communities. PSHH serves low-income working families, farmworkers, seniors and veterans and provides welcoming environments for those living with disabilities and the formerly homeless. It also promotes homeownership through a “sweat equity” program that has seen nearly 1,200 homes successfully constructed. PSHH has a presence in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, manages over 1,800 rental units, and employs nearly 200 staff members.
