Posted on 10/19/2016
Goleta, Calif. Oct. 19, 2016 – Peoples’ Self-Help Housing broke ground for its all-new, 70-unit affordable housing development Village at Los Carneros in Goleta at an Oct. 12 ceremony.
PSHH hosted a ground breaking celebration at the construction site on Calle Koral, west of Los Carneros Road. Construction on the nearly 3-acre lot is expected to be completed in early 2018.
The future one- to three-bedroom apartment units will range in size from 736 to 1,075 square feet and serve households earning no more than 60 percent of the area median income. The development will also feature a community center, multi-purpose room, youth education center, management offices, two on-site laundry facilities, outdoor recreation space and a half basketball court.
“This project has been years in the making, and we’re thrilled to move forward into construction,” said PSHH President/CEO John Fowler. “We’re incredibly grateful to our partners who are helping make Village at Los Carneros a reality, as its much more than a development. This site will soon be providing safe housing to so many hard-working families, as well as helping with the tools needed to succeed, whether that’s education or social services.”
Funders include J.P. Morgan Chase (Construction and Tax Exempt Bond Financing), City of Goleta, Goleta Valley Housing Committee, and Merritt Community Capital (Tax Credit Investor). Development partners include architect Carl Schneider and Associates, civil engineer Stantec and general contractor Comstock Homes.
