Summer Programs Begin in Carpinteria!

Summer has begun at Peoples’ Self-Help Housing’s Youth Education Enhancement Program (YEEP) in Carpinteria. This year the free program operates noon- 4 p.m. at Dahlia Court Apartments Learning Center and the education trailer at Chapel Court. Nearly 50 children participate in the program daily. Funding and several volunteers for the summer programs are provided by All Saints by-the-Sea Episcopal Church of Santa Barbara.

Daily activities include reading, brain games, academic and enrichment activities, physical education and a free lunch supplied by Community Action Commission. Field trips have been planned to the Fire Department, Ty Warner Sea Center, Venoco & the Bluffs, SB Art Museum, Carpinteria Historical Museum, and Cottage Hospital.

The Dahlia Court program is directed by Educator Brienna Milam, a Westmont College graduate. The Chapel Court program is directed by Amee Beck who graduated from Arizona State University, Tempe. Volunteers are needed. If you would like more information about the program or volunteering phone Rochelle Rose, YEEP Manager, at (805) 962-5152 x227.
