Community West Bank has collected donated new toys to brighten the holidays for hundreds of children living at Peoples' Self-Help Housing affordable rental complexes in Isla Vista and Storke Ranch in Goleta, and the Ladera property in Santa Barbara. Officer Rick Alvarado from the Santa Barbara Police Department, a community partner of Peoples' Self-Help Housing, recognized this need, and initiated coordination of this toy drive with Community West Bank. Donations were dropped off by individuals and companies at Community West Bank branches and corporate offices throughout the past week.

In addition to toys for smaller children up to 11 years old, individuals donated items appropriate for children, ages 12-17 years old. Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District (MTD) is providing a bus and a driver to transport the toys from the collection locations to Peoples' Self-Help Housing properties for distribution to the children.

Lynda Nahra, Community West Bank President & CEO commented, "Peoples' Self-Help Housing is a wonderful organization working to provide self-sufficiency programs for families through affordable housing and support services in our community. We are proud to support their toy drive so that all of the children in their program receive gifts this holiday season."

"We are thankful that Officer Alvarado saw an opportunity to help the children of our properties, and deeply appreciate this generous gesture by Community West Bank," said Jeanette Duncan, Executive Director of Peoples' Self-Help Housing. "These toys will lighten the financial burden for our families, especially during the holidays. Peoples' Self-Help Housing is honored to partner with community leaders that are so committed to local philanthropy."
