People's Self-Help Housing Celebrates Ground Breaking for Goleta's Newest Affordable Housing
First Affordable Housing Complex Approved by the City of Goleta, Elwood Apartments, Breaks Ground August 5th
Goleta, CA, August 2005—Congresswoman Lois Capps, Mayor Jean Blois and Assemblymember Pedro Nava join Peoples' Self-Help Housing (PSHH) for a groundbreaking ceremony to announce Ellwood Apartments, its newest affordable housing complex, in Goleta.
Peoples' Self-Help Housing, a local nonprofit providing home ownership and affordable rental opportunities for low income families since 1970, will build eight new permanently affordable apartments in Goleta. The one and two-bedroom units will vary between 580 to 900 square feet in size. The complex will include a laundry facility and will be located near public transportation routes, shopping areas and Girsh Park recreational area.
Other PSHH developments in the city of Goleta include the nearby Storke Ranch Apartments and Isla Vista Apartments. Peoples' Self-Help Housing also owns and manages a number of affordable housing properties in neighboring cities. These properties include Victoria St. Bungalows I & II, Victoria Hotel and Milagro de Ladera Apartments in Santa Barbara, and Dahlia Court Apartments and Camper Park in Carpinteria.
Partners in this project include Design ARC, Inc. and Penfield & Smith Engineers. Funding partners include the City of Goleta, County of Santa Barbara, Montecito Bank & Trust, and the State Department of Housing & Community Development.
