Affordable Housing Tour Presents High Quality and Attractive Housing to the Community
San Luis Obispo, CA—In an effort to increase public support for well designed and attractive affordable housing in San Luis Obispo, a group of community housing advocates has planned an affordable housing tour. The May 31 bus tour will feature selected housing along a planned route in the county where some 200 or so local officials and other community-minded citizens will get a first hand look at what affordable housing can be.
Peoples' Self-Help Housing is one of the organizations that will be showcased as two of their housing complexes will be part of the tour. "Peoples' Self-Help Housing is proud to be part of this effort and has been dealing with the stigma of affordable housing for over 30 years. Fortunately, our apartments and homes speak for themselves as we pay great attention to their construction, landscaping, and overall management," said Jeanette Duncan, Executive Director, Peoples' Self-Help Housing.
Among the many other housing organizations participating in the tour are, Housing Authority of San Luis Obispo City, Affordable Housing Trust Fund, and Habitat for Humanity.
The housing tour will be preceded by a breakfast and a presentation about affordable housing issues in the San Luis Obispo area.
"Part of our message will be an economic one," said Jerry Bunin, government affairs director for the Home Builders Association of the Central Coast. "Businesses and local governments are having trouble recruiting and retaining the workers they need because of the high cost of housing in our area."
Media is welcome to attend breakfast, presentation, and tour.
